A designer's eye,
a builder's hands.
Travis Terrell was born in Normal, Illinois, drawn first to the mechanics of engines and machines. He found his real calling in design at Heartland Community College, where his talent for the fine arts — ceramics and molding — set the foundation for everything he would go on to build in wood.
He learned the trade as an apprentice to Richard Randall of Randall Cabinet & Design, taking on serious work early: contributions to Frank Lloyd Wright's William Glasner House in Glencoe and commissions for the Catholic Diocese of Peoria. As shop foreman he led the design, layout, construction, finishing, and installation of every job that left the bench.
Today he carries that craft into a new chapter at Rivian in Normal, Illinois, leading a General Assembly team through the R2 vehicle launch — translating engineering specifications into the assembly line and sharpening it through lean, Kaizen-driven process design. Fifteen years at the workbench, now applied to the factory floor.
